understanding FUNERALS

What's the one thing that happens just once in a lifetime? We plan for education, work, family - rarely do we think about celebrating that life.  Many have criticised the funeral industry for becoming too commercialised. So how can we help raise awareness in this sensitive area?

The Dying questions book

Most people engage in funeral related reading material either at-need or pre-need, i.e. for elderly family members, but not when we’re fit and healthy. The harsh reality is, none of us really know when our time is up. But we will need the information at some point. Many have criticised the funeral industry for becoming too commercialised. So how can we help raise awareness in this sensitive area?

We worked with Funeral DIY and Red Pocket to develop "The Dying Questions”. This book aims to demystify, generate curiosity and encourage people to ask more questions. By coming together, we wanted a book that provides information in a more inviting and educational way. To take on a more refreshing approach to people’s views and understanding about death care.

We explain what happens when someone dies. We talk about how religious and cultural diversity makes each funeral unique. We even cover the more quirkier facts that you don’t ask everyday, such as:

  • why families may want to view the body
  • what the body might look like
  • how soon should a funeral be after death occurs
  • will the body last that long

We also draw on our understanding of the multicultural diversity in Australia with 43% of Australians having at least one overseas born parent, and how this impacts on funeral arrangements in the future.
